Sir Walter

Sir Walter has become one of the leading turf varieties over the years, with its dark green broadleaf appearance and soft leaf which not only performs well in full sun but better than most other varieties in shaded areas as well. Sir Walter is also hard wearing and recovers well from damage and retains its colour well in the winter months. Sir Walter with its thick mat out competes weeds leaving you with healthy weed free lawn. It is also resistant to a number of insects and fungal pests. These characteristics make Sir Walter the perfect choice for a family lawn as well as various commercial uses.

Palmetto

Palmetto has also become one of the leading turf varieties with its soft textured and emerald green colour which is a true eye catcher. It also performs well in full sun and has good shade tolerance and has excellent frost resistance which makes its colour retention better than all other buffalos. Palmetto also has good salt tolerance which makes it the ideal lawn in coastal areas as well as around saltwater pools. These characteristics also make palmetto the perfect choice when choosing your next new lawn.

Standard Soft Leaf Buffalo

Standard Soft Leaf Buffalo performs well in full sun and semi shade. It handles wear and tear fairly well. Disadvantages of Standard Soft Leaf buffalo are its purple winter colour and it also thatches quite quickly making it harder to mow.

Winter Green Couch

Winter Green Couch is one of the lower maintenance couch lawns which is dark and has very fine leaf with a reasonably thick mat. It requires full sun and is not suitable for shady and high traffic areas. Overall winter green couch still makes a beautiful home lawn if continuously maintained.

Green Leas Park Couch

Green Leas Park Couch is a higher maintenance couch lawn, lush green in colour and has a very fine leaf with a slightly thinner mat compared to Winter Green Couch. It requires full sun and is not suitable for shady and high traffic areas. Green Leas Park Couch would make a carpet looking lawn though it would need to be continuously maintained to look its best.

Kikuyu

Kikuyu is still a popular variety of lawn for both commercial and domestic use only due to its affordable price. Kikuyu is a vigorous grower and will invade garden beds if not properly maintained. Kikuyu is a high maintenance lawn which requires mowing very frequently and has poor growth in shaded areas making it susceptible to weeds. Where possible other more appropriate varieties should be considered.
